Overview of Work Done for a Retail Outlet :

Just before the organized retail boom started in Mumbai, the entrepreneur (a traditional businessman) had an idea to start a heritage furniture and artefacts shop in Bandra.

This confidence to start a new venture in a completely different area was based on 2 strengths - Possession of A Ground Floor Shop Premises and Contacts within the supplier community of old heritage furniture shops in Mumbai.

Based on both informal entrepreneur gut feelings and a set of brief formal market and competitive studies, the venture was launched.

When we were asked to get involved, the brand name had already been decided, the logo had already been designed.

The location and the product concept was also fixed.

Based on these given existing constraints, we had to suggest operational strategies.

We also had to consider the risk that because this was the entrepreneur's first business diversification in a retail outlet, the chances of failure could be high.

We were confident that we would be able to provide high quality practical strategic insights and suggestions based on earlier cross industry cross functional past experiences.

Over a series of consulting and implementation engagements with the entrepreneur and his team, we were able to successfully (based on his expectations and the market feedback received within the next 12 months) launch the venture and start the outlet operations.

This was the first major organized retail attempt in the so far unorganized antique and heritage furniture markets of Mumbai.

We conducted extensive briefings, formal training sessions, field research including covert competitor visits and industry event participation, desk research and intensive strategy sessions over a period of 12 months.
