Again, For Software Systems, the Key Issue would be Federation and Not Integration.
Federation implies each Software Component knows it's Role as Part of an Overall Framework with well understood pre-defined Interfaces.
This would not only be at the time of Final Creation but right from the Initial 'Conceptualisation' Stage Itself.
Hence, Software MetaData Architectures become very important.
Integration would mean attempting to join or match two different entities after they have been created. It would normally not be done at the creation stage.
