This article was first published on 1st March 2004. The beginning of a Hot Indian Summer when the Offshore Outsourcing Debate was it's absolute peak. It promises to be sizzling and hot. Yesterday, The schedule for India's first All Electronic General Elections was announced. Even though some experts suspect the quality of these electronic voting machines or EVM's as they are called here, (remember the Florida Fiasco ?) still it would be fascinating to have 700 Million voters use these all across the country, instead of the traditional Paper and ballot Box elections. |
Just as sizzling as an Indian summer, or perhaps much more is the Offshoring Debate raging all across the world. Hopefully, the positive macro manufacturing data released in the US today will help cool some of the hot tempers. In India, an article by Thomas Friedman of the New York Times reporting from Bangalore has also set off sizzling debates on electronic forums here. On the possible (non-) linkages (if any ?) between Offshoring and Terrorism. The constant coverage by the Frontline media has ensured that no politician seeking to be elected anywhere in the world can afford to ignore this important issue of jobs and offshoring to lower cost countries, whichever side of the hemisphere the person seeks votes from. (Remember 72 countries go for elections this year.) But, do politicians really understand the Offshoring game ? How can each one of us do his or her little bit ? I am not a political pundit. But, some simple (not sizzling) suggestions in this hot political potato year. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The choices that we make will possibly determine our destiny for the next few years. Not only our destiny, but also that of the rest of the world. Remember after all, it surely is a small (safely sizzling) world where we are all interconnected to each other. ![]() |
