25th May 2004. Thursday The Thirteenth's Three Thunderous Hours. Thursday the Thirteenth ![]() ![]() Within a space of just three hours when the election results were announced, the entire Indian political landscape changed drastically. Beyond most people's expectations !! Proving once again that democracy truly rules in India. Incidentally, in Indian elections, the percentage of voting rural population is more than the urban population. Also, the only country where as the income levels go down, the voting percentage goes up. Totally reverse to the trend in other developed democratic countries. Democracy is a powerful enabler of Offsourcing. How ? It is a powerful bridge. There are significant cultural and social gaps between the Developed Nations from where Offsourcing is primarily originating and India. These gaps need to be bridged at all times for successful long term business relationships. What better to bridge the gaps than the assurance that India's political systems remain truly democratic ? Democracy is a lasting link between like-minded free-thinking people. It gives the comfort feeling that the country's institutional foundations are solid. Maybe slow. But Surely Solid. At the same time, not averse to transformation. Indian Democracy Denotes Systemic Successes !! Contrary to popular perceptions, the people's mandate was not anti-reforms but anti-speed-of-reforms. People all over the world including India want faster and better reforms. The BSP ( Bijli, Sadak, Pani ) (Water, Roads, Electricity) Issues need to be solved faster. Since Democracy-Leveraged-Offsourcing enhances Economic Prosperity, it will be welcomed. By all. Mahesh Khatri.
