For Accounting as well as other Related SAP Modules. SAP has identified India as a crucial market both for software development resources as well as for selling it's product suites here. SAP's announcement of a US 1 Billion $ Investment in India in August 2006 follows the trail of other IT giants like IBM and Microsoft who have also committed similar huge investments. SAP's investment numbers are in line with their 2010 goals in terms of number of SAP customers, Public SAP E-Governance projects and also the number of SAP-certified consultants in India. Since ERP (and possibly SAP) is poised to be a core technology infrastructure for most corporates, the overall ERP career outlook does look promising. SAP ERP Implementations in India are still in an early stage. |
Globally, there are opportunities in fixing 'bad' ERP projects much after the initial implementations are completed. The same trend will surface in India within the next few years. Accounting and finance background professionals could position their professional consulting career to leverage the same profitably. With the introduction of Clause 49 and the increased focus on enterprise level corporate governance solutions in India, the need for better and faster quality of information and decision making will spread ERP and SAP solutions in India. Also, the increased Offshoring to India also has a large component of SAP Related Jobs, both for Development of SAP Applications and Maintenance of Global SAP System Landscapes. Specific examples of a few industries in India that are in growth mode and that have good potential for SAP solutions : Pharmaceuticals is a good area for growth in
India in the next few years as SAP
and it's partners have done some work in this segment. Since the Textiles Exports Quota Regime has disappeared, there is going to be global
consolidation of the industry structure. India and China are expected to be the largest beneficiaries of the same. There are many specific verticals within the Textile Industry and there are a few players who are focussing on the same (SAP Implementation partners,small as well as large ERP players). Organized Retail is another area that will witness growth in the coming years in India with the anticipated entry of WALMART, Reliance and other large global players here. SAP has a special vertical solution
for Utilities. There are Gigantic Electricity Utility Projects being planned in India over the next few years. ERP Vendors like SAP would sense the market opportunity. One of the largest Media Group Companies in

After VAT has been accepted by all states and is fully implemented in India, there would
be good opportunities in ERP Solutions in Logistics and Supply Chain
Management (SCM) Functions. Within SCM, there are good prospects for Order Fulfillment SD Module and APO (Advanced Planning and Optimization) Module (TSCM or SCM) skills, even though with slower market growth as compared to overseas countries. SAP is strong in the Chemical and Process Manufacturing
Industry, there may be good opportunities in the future. Since India's mobile users are growing fast, it would increase the demand for integrating SAP Enterprise Applications with mobile devices.Hence, market demand would increase for SAP Technical developers with the knowledge and skillsets of SAP Presentation Layer (SAP's User-Interface Front End) with Client Hardware as mobile devices. |
